How this works

The Selection Process

Grandmaster McCleary teaches a small number of students at any given time. Tell us who you are, what you're looking for, and what you've trained in. Response typically within seven days. Three paths below — pick the one that matches you.

Apply for personal training

The primary path. Application followed by a brief conversation. If we move forward, you're invited for an initial in-person session.

Inquire about group sessions

Short inquiry to start a conversation about training in a small group. Groups form when there's a clear shared training goal.

Host a seminar or clinic

For outside groups, schools, or organizations that want to bring Grandmaster McCleary in for a seminar or clinic engagement.

Inquire about hosting

Path 1

Personal Training Application

Take your time. The questions below are how we get to know you before the conversation.

Your name
Any prior martial-arts or athletic experience, plus what you want from training.
Days/times that generally work for you.

Path 2

Group Session Inquiry

A few short questions so we know who's reaching out and what you're looking for.

Your name
How many people in the group.
Who they are, what they're looking for, any prior training.

Path 3

Seminar / Clinic Inquiry

Tell us about your group and what you're looking to host. Topic, format, duration, and travel are determined per engagement.

Your name
School, club, agency, or company hosting.
Which art or focus the seminar should cover.
Location, dates under consideration, any constraints.

After you submit

What Happens Next

  1. We review your application — typically within seven days.
  2. If it's a fit, we'll set up a brief conversation to talk through goals, schedule, and approach.
  3. If we move forward, you're invited for an initial session.
  4. Tuition and scheduling are discussed in that conversation, not on the website.

Things People Ask

What does this cost?

Tuition is discussed during the application conversation. We don't list pricing publicly because the engagement varies — some students train weekly, some twice a week, some intensively for a season.

Do I need a uniform?

Uniforms are not required to start. Wear comfortable clothing you can move in. If you continue past the foundation phase we'll talk through what equipment makes sense.

How long from application to first session?

Most applications get a response within seven days. From application to first in-person session is typically two to four weeks depending on schedule alignment.

I'm not near Knoxville. Can I still train?

Yes. Distance students follow the same application path, then train through the Serbatik student portal — a structured video curriculum, level by level, with direct video-response critique from Grandmaster McCleary and periodic in-person testing.
